The Dallas Mavericks won the NBA draft lottery on Monday evening—just months after shockingly trading Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers—and sent conspiracy theorists into a tizzy, not dissimilar to the response after the New York Knicks won the inaugural lottery back in 1985 and ultimately selected Patrick Ewing.

Despite entering the 2025 NBA draft lottery with a 1.8% chance of winning the No. 1 overall pick, the team defied the odds and landed the top selection in the upcoming draft.

For months, the consensus No. 1 overall pick has been Duke freshman star Cooper Flagg.
