The American Kennel Club (AKC) announced Thursday that the Danish-Swedish Farmdog is the newest dog breed in their registry. Dog breeds added to AKC's largest purebred dog registry are allowed to compete at all levels of the club's sports and events.

Say hello to the latest dog in the American Kennel Club’s lineup of recognized breeds. The Danish-Swedish farmdog joined the pack Thursday.

In their original homelands, the dogs’ main job was rodent patrol, but they also would herd a bit, act as watchdogs and play with farmers’ children.

The Danish-Swedish farmdog is the newest addition to the American Kennel Club’s lineup of recognized breeds, the Associated Press reports. As the 202nd AKC dog breed, the DSF is now eligible to compete for best-in-show trophies;
