Russian state newspaper Izvestia says one of its freelance reporters has been killed in a drone strike near the Russian-occupied city of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine. Moscow has accused Ukraine's military of deliberately targeting Alexander Martemyanov.

Russian media outlet Izvestia one of their reporters was killed in a drone strike near the city of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine.

In the strikes near Cape Tarkhankut on Crimea’s west coast on Tuesday, a Magura V5 maritime drone equipped with missiles hit a Russian Mi-8 helicopter, Ukraine’s GUR spy agency said. The GUR said it was the first time a Ukrainian naval drone had downed an air target. There was no comment from Russia.

Russia's RIA news agency said two of its correspondents travelling with Martemyanov were injured in the incident, along with two journalists working for a local publication in Donetsk.

KYIV - Russia launched a New Year’s Day drone strike on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv early on Jan 1, killing two people, wounding at least six others and damaging buildings in two districts, authorities said.

Russia is demanding the United Nations condemn Kyiv following an alleged drone attack that it claims killed a journalist working for a Russian outlet and injured several others.
