MORE: KXAN reporter Jala Washington said a No Kings Protest in Bastrop had at least 500 people demonstrating against the Trump Administration. A group of Trump supporters was also present and counter-protesting.
The Houston demonstration is one of several planned in the region throughout the day and is expected to draw thousands of protesters.
Gov. Greg Abbott has deployed the Texas National Guard in response to protests, but Corpus Christi police are not aware of any local deployments.
Abbott's comment—an acronym for "F–k Around Find Out"—came hours after hundreds of protestors began marching Monday night, from the Capitol to the J.J. Pickle Federal Building, chanting "no justice, no peace" and waving signs lambasting ICE. The demonstrations ended with police using tear gas to disperse those gathered.
A large protest is being planned in Houston that is expected to counter a military parade for the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army and President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday this weekend.
