T he Honda Passport is returning to its roots. The original 1990s Passport was an Isuzu-based SUV with some serious off-road credentials, but the resurrected 2019–2024 Passport

Back in the 1990s before coming out with its own crossover, the CR-V, Honda offered the first-generation Passport, a rebadged Isuzu Rodeo that was a legit body-on-frame SUV. Since then, the Japanese brand has mainly stuck to crossover-y models that aren’t focused on off-roading,

The most obvious indication of this is the design that in many ways harkens back to the 1997-2002 second-generation model that was built by Isuzu. The new Passport has a chunkier, more squared off design with a flatter, longer hood, slightly more upright windshield and similar kick-up at the beltline toward the back of the rear doors.

The 2026 Honda Passport lineup includes three trim levels: RTL, TrailSport and TrailSport Elite. Every model will come equipped with the same 3.5-liter V-6 engine, which Honda says is good for 285 hp. That motor comes mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, which has been specifically re-tuned for application in this machine.

A new generation of the Honda Passport starts sales in early 2025, in both regular and extra-rugged TrailSport guises.
