South Korean lawmakers impeached acting President Han Duck-soo on Friday, two weeks after parliament voted to remove President Yoon Suk Yeol, further escalating tensions in South Korea.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol was impeached by parliament over his abortive attempt at martial law on December 3, 2024. However, a video that social media posts claimed shows his supporters rallying against the impeachment motion is unrelated.

The ultra-conservative movement, embodied by the evangelical churches, wants to prevent the return to power of the progressives, whom they accuse of bowing to China and North Korea.
