Sunil Gavaskar was extremely frustrated Rishabh Pant's after latter threw his wicket after playing a rash shot on Day 3 of the fourth Test against Australia.

India great Sunil Gavaskar is apoplectic after Rishabh Pant's clumsy dismissal in India's first innings of the Boxing Day Test at the MCG.

With India desperately looking for a partnership on the third day of the fourth Test against Australia at the MCG, Pant went across and attempted to scoop Scott Boland to fine leg, only to get a big leading edge for Nathan Lyon to complete a simple catch at deep third man.

Rishabh Pant failed to execute his fabled scoop over fine leg while facing Scott Boland early on day three of the ongoing Boxing Day Test and was caught at deep third by Nathan Lyon. Sunil Gavaskar was not pleased by the mode of dismissal.

"Stupid, stupid, stupid," was Gavaskar's immediate reaction. "You've got two fielders there, and you still go for that, you've missed the previous shot. And look where you've been caught. You've been caught at deep third man.

When India resumed on the third day of the Boxing Day Test, they were hoping for a big knock from Rishabh Pant. But the 27-year-old departed for 28 from 37 balls. His knock contained three boundaries.

India have their backs against the wall in the ongoing India vs Australia Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). What made matters worse was India’s poor start to Day 3 of the IND vs AUS Test as the Rohit Sharma-led side lost both Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja in the opening session.

Former India legend Sunil Gavaskar has come down hard on young Rishabh Pant , criticising him over his shot selection during the Boxing Day Test. Gavaskar, who was on-air when Pant played the shot, could not believe what had happened.
