BASEL, Switzerland — Competition in the 69th Eurovision Song Contest kicks off Tuesday, with performers from 15 countries battling it out in Basel, Switzerland during the first of two semifinals of the pan-continental music extravaganza.

So just who are the presenters at this year's contest? Read on to learn more about Eurovision hosts Hazel Brugger and Sandra Studer. Hazel Brugger is an American, German and Swiss slam poet and comedian, having been born in California to a Swiss father and German father.

Eurovision has officially started, with the first round of semi-finals held Tuesday in the Swiss city of Basel.

The semi-final on Tuesday, May 13, got off to typical Eurovision style with a mix of music, light entertainment, cheeky commentary and including a brief break to test the audience’s knowledge of Swiss music that took the audience by surprise.

Switzerland, where the competition began in Lugano in 1956, is hosting Tuesday’s first 2025 semi-final in Basel at the arena St Jakobshalle.
