More than 2,000 New York prison guards who were fired for participating in an illegal wildcat strike won't be able to get another job with the state, Gov. Kathy Hochul said.

New York fired more than 2,000 prison guards Monday for failing to return to work after a weekslong wildcat strike that crippled the state’s correctional system, but said enough officers had come back on the job to declare the illegal work stoppage over.

ALBANY — State Corrections Commissioner Daniel F. Martuscello III said Monday that the 22-day strike at prisons statewide is over, but that more than 2,000 correction officers who refused to return to work Monday will be fired.
