On Nov. 24, 1892, the Toledo, Ann Arbor and Northern Michigan Railroad started what many people thought was impossible: crossing Lake Michigan in the winter with a car ferry.
In 1918, the U.S. Railroad Administration formed the Lake Michigan Car Ferry Association to enhance efficiency by managing 11 vessels from the Ann Arbor, Grand Trunk and Pere Marquette railroads.
CHICAGO, Dec. 16. -- A dispatch from Toledo says the Ann Arbor Railroad will put wireless telegraphy to practical test by introducing it in connection with the car ferry business across Lake Michigan.
