A blizzard warning begins Sunday afternoon for most of central Iowa, with snow blowing through Monday morning.

Parts of 16 states have been placed under winter storm warnings, blizzard warnings, and winter storm watches.

Airports in Washington, D.C., and along the Northeastern corridor led the list of flight cancellations today as a major winter storm and blizzard hit the region. There were 5,685 flights within, into or out of the United States today that were canceled, according to tracking website FlightAware.

A widespread blizzard bringing potentially historic snowfall amounts is still on track to hit the UP from late tonight/early tomorrow morning into Monday night,” NWS meteorologists in Marquette said.

A blizzard warning is in effect for central and southern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin Saturday night through early Monday, which includes the Twin Cities.
