Newark Liberty, JFK, LaGuardia and Teterboro were listed among the 40 “high volume market” airports that will be affected by flight cancellations as part of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy’s pledge to keep American travelers safe in the sky, CBS News reported.
At Kennedy Airport, 38 flights had been canceled by 10 a.m. and at LaGuardia an additional 26 flights had been canceled, according to flight-tracking website FlightAware. The cancellations were at or less than 4% of total flights for each airport.
Four New York City-area airports are among those that may be affected by a 10% cut to air traffic set to be imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration amid the ongoing government shutdown, according to NBC News.
