The Michigan Wolverines finished their 2025 regular season with a 27-9 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes that almost certainly knocked coach Sherrone Moore’s team out of contention for the College Football Playoffs. The Wolverines’ disappointing finish led to the firing of a key assistant coach on Wednesday, as announced by Moore.
Michigan football’s shot at a playoff bid is virtually over. The Wolverines fell four spots to No. 19 in the penultimate rankings from the College Football Playoff selection committee on Tuesday, three days after losing, 27-9, to No. 1 Ohio State.
Ohio State coach Ryan Day, fresh off the top-ranked Buckeyes’ 27-9 win over Michigan last Saturday, told local reporters Tuesday that he had an “inkling” Ohio State would lose headset communication during the game.
It leaves Ohio State players to receive national and conference awards over the span of two weeks. The recognition began on Dec. 3 as the Big Ten unveiled its all-conference defensive and special teams selections, as well as the recipients of individual awards.
