GOP governors of at least eight states ordered flags to be flown at full-staff on Inauguration Day, bucking tradition by raising flags before the end of a customary 30-day mourning period following the death of former President Jimmy Carter.

Ivey, 80, will be the same age when her term ends in 2027 as President Joe Biden is as he finishes his time in the White House. Biden at 82 is the oldest serving president in American history.

Little’s announcement came on the heals of House Speaker Mike Johnson ordering that flags at the U.S. Capitol be raised to their full height on Inauguration Day. Johnson’s directive paused a 30-day flag-lowering order following Carter’s death.
