Sudan has filed a case at the top United Nations court accusing the United Arab Emirates of breaching the genocide convention by arming and funding the rebel paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces in Sudan’s deadly war.

Sudan has filed a case against the United Arab Emirates arguing that the Gulf state is complicit in genocide over its alleged support for Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, the International Court of Justice announced Thursday.

In an International Court of Justice complaint, the Sudanese government says the United Arab Emirates is fueling genocidal actions by funding rebels in the country’s civil war.

The United Arab Emirates, according Khartoum, is “complicit in the genocide” of West Darfur’s Masalit community, through its military, economic, and political support of the Rapid Support Forces, an allegation UAE dismissed as a “cynical publicity stunt”.

Since the escalation of the civil war in Sudan, the Sudanese government has accused the UAE of supporting Sudan's paramilitary group - the Rapid Support Forces.

A dispatch from the ICJ on Thursday said Sudan has accused UAE of being complicit in “acts which have been perpetrated by RSF and militias allied with it, including, but not limited to genocide, murder, theft of property, rape, forcible displacement, trespassing, vandalism of public properties, and violation of human rights.”
