Novak Djokovic's start to the season has been very different from expectations. It is true that the Serbian legend reached the semifinals at the 2025 Australian Open – after achieving a titanic feat against Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals – but he had a new injury that forced him to retire during his match against Alexander Zverev.

Novak Djokovic surprisingly fell to Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 during the second round of the BNP Paribas Open. Djokovic has now lost to two straight lucky losers in Indian Wells.

The Serbian Novak Djokovic was at the losing end after 85th seeded Botic van de Zandschulp knocked the seventh seed out of the prestigious Indian Wells tournament.
