American Chris Gotterup will have an extended stay in the U.K. after winning the Scottish Open and earning a spot in next week's British Open.

Gotterup shot a 4-under par 66 to outduel Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy and win the Genesis Scottish Open on Sunday at North Berwick, Scotland. "This is awesome," Gotterup said, fighting back tears. "I'm not going to be able to keep it together."

Chris Gotterup had a plane ticket for California to play an opposite-field event in Lake Tahoe. The only change in itinerary would be to take down Rory McIlroy at the Scottish Open before a sellout crowd expecting the Masters champion to claim his 30th title on the PGA Tour.
