As temperatures plummet across Western Washington, cold weather shelters in Snohomish County and Seattle are gearing up to provide refuge for those in need.

Emergency cold-weather shelters will be open starting Monday evening in St. Lucie, Okeechobee and Indian River counties as a cold front brings much cooler weather to Florida.

The extension comes just days after Mayor Cara Spencer signed a new executive order changing the way the city responds to extreme cold weather. The order increases coordination among shelters and expands services to get people indoors quickly and safely.
