A group of Florida boaters captured stunning footage of a rare humpback whale breaching the waters off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

Humpback whale populations have been increasing throughout many of their ranges since a final moratorium on commercial whaling was established in 1985 by the International Whaling Commission, NOAA said. The U.S. listed all humpback whales as endangered in 1970.

Humpback whales are typically not found near Miami, but they can be spotted in the waters off South Florida during their migration.
