Winter Storm Cora will wring out snow and ice over a large swath of the South from Texas to Virginia through Friday night, snarling travel in Dallas-Ft. Worth, Nashville and Atlanta, among other locations.

Winter storms swept across the Midwest last week, canceling many flights and delaying travel plans.As fans prepare to travel to Dallas for Friday's Cotton Bowl, they should be prepared for atypical conditions.

The greatest snowfall amount recorded at DFW was 11.2 inches Feb. 11, 2010, with 12.5 inches of snow recorded Feb. 11-12, 2010. There were also widespread power outages recorded because of the heavy snow weighing down tree limbs and breaking power lines.

The National Weather Service said a tenth of an inch of ice could accumulate on bridges, and some areas could get up to a quarter inch. But the main travel impacts are expected to be from sleet and snow.
