The U.S. Open has turned into a sprint through the soggy fairways of Oakmont following a downpour that caused a delay of 1 hour, 37 minutes.

The suspension of play came at 4:01 p.m. ET. Play will resume at 5:40 ET. Oakmont was soaked in the weeks prior to the U.S. Open, then largely dried out until a deluge dropped more than an inch of rain on the course on Friday evening.

The U.S. Open final round was halted at 4:05 p.m. after torrential rain soaked Oakmont, leaving standing water on the greens and in fairways.

The poor weather conditions at Oakmont Country Club got the better of most of the competitors at the 2025 U.S. Open during Sunday's final round, but J.J. Spaun overcame the challenge with a late surge to win his first career major.

I tried to just continue to dig deep,” he J.J. Spaun said after winning the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont. “I've been doing it my whole life.”

The National Weather Service reports that the weather in the Oakmont, Pennsylvania, area on Sunday is expected to feature rain showers in the morning and scattered showers throughout the day, with a high of around 76 degrees.

Sam Burns is the 54-hole leader and the betting favorite entering the final round of the 125th U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club. Burns has a one-shot advantage over Adam Scott and J.J. Spaun. Viktor Hovland is solo fourth,

There's one round left in the U.S. Open at the Oakmont Country Club and even though Sam Burns maintained the one-shot lead he held at the beginning of the third round on June 14, numerous contenders behind him are ready to step into the breach should he falter.
