Maybe Happy Ending was the big winner at the Tony Awards gala in New York Sunday, earning the accolades for Best Musical, Book of a Musical, Original Score, Scenic Design for a Musical and Actor in a Musical for Darren Criss.

Tom Francis and Maia Reficco are having a Broadway date night. The Sunset Blvd. actor, 25, and Hadestown actress, 24, stepped out for a glamorous evening at the 2025 Tony Awards on Sunday, June 8. This year’s annual awards ceremony celebrating Broadway’s stars took place at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Andrew Lloyd Webber is off the snide. In 1995, the original Broadway production of Sunset Boulevard won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. That marked the last time a Webber show won one of the top prizes from the American Theatre Wing.

Broadway is back and better than ever. That seemed to be the main message from last night’s Tony Award ceremony, capping off one of the strongest Broadway seasons in recent memory, and certainly the strongest since the 2020 lockdowns closed Broadway for over a year.

Both actors’ performances notably depart from their predecessors. Scherzinger’s portrayal of silent screen star Norma Desmond in “Sunset Boulevard” is sexier and more sinister than those of Glenn Close and Patti LuPone, who respectively starred in the original Broadway and London productions in the early 1990s.
