The Dauphin Island Sea Lab confirms a sperm whale carcass washed up along the shore in Fort Morgan. Officials with Baldwin EMA told WKRG that crews will likely be out at Fort Morgan for several more hours Sunday afternoon.

In addition to the Marshfield whale, a dead whale washed up on Bayside Beach in Plymouth on Dec. 9. In Brewster, the carcass of another humpback whale washed ashore on the beach between Crosby Landing Beach and Linnell Landing Beach the weekend of Dec. 14.

A necropsy was scheduled to be performed Saturday on a young humpback whale that turned up dead on a beach in Kitty Hawk on the Outer Banks Friday morning, police said. “Please do not touch or disturb the whale,” police said on Facebook after the whale washed ashore near the Bennett Street Beach Access.

Witnesses found the 5-10-year-old juvenile humpback whale in Kitty Hawk, near the Bennett Street Beach Access and reported it around 8 a.m., according to Marina Doshkov, stranding coordinator with the OBX Marine Mammal Stranding Network.
