Charlie Stramel gets two goals and an assist and Isaac Howard notches three assists as MSU splits weekend series

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - No. 1 Michigan State hockey took down rival No. 10 Michigan, 4-1, at Munn Arena in East Lansing Saturday night. Michigan State’s win ensured the rivals split a home-and-home series this weekend after Michigan won 3-2 in overtime Friday. The teams combined for 21 penalties in a chippy, heated rivalry game.

From the start, the Michigan State University hockey team was ready to dominate night two of its rivalry matchup against Michigan. They delivered, earning a commanding 4-1 victory over their in-state rivals.

The Penn State men’s hockey team earned its first Big Ten Conference victory of the season Sunday, dropping Notre Dame, 3-0, in South Bend, and ending a nine-game winless streak in conference play. It was the longest such streak in program history, matching a mark from Penn State’s first season in the conference.

Charlie Stramel was at the podium answering a question during a postgame press conference and couldn’t hold back a big yawn. It was late and the Michigan State forward had reason to be tired after playing 60 minutes of physical hockey in a 4-1 win against rival Michigan on Saturday night.

Stramel scores twice to help MSU beat Michigan 4-1 and earn series split

No. 1 Michigan State (19-3-2, 10-2-2 Big Ten) navigated a penalty-ridden game to earn a 4-1 win over No. 10 Michigan. The Spartans’ power play went 2-for-7, while the penalty kill blanked the Wolverines on four out of five deployments.
