Harman community members were in a celebratory mood Tuesday night after the Randolph County Board of Education voted against superintendent Shawn Dilly's recommendation to close Harman School.

After the Randolph County Board of Education voted to keep Harman School open Tuesday night, Randolph County Schools has also decided to keep Pickens School open and cancel all proposals, plans and meetings to discuss its closure.

Following the move to keep Harman open, Randolph County Schools Superintendent Shawn Dilly released a statement Wednesday that the BOE would formally withdraw the proposal to close Pickens School. The statement came hours prior to another meeting that was scheduled for Wednesday night regarding the schools’ potential closure.
