FMCSA streamlines regulations on truck routing, civil penalties

FMCSA was established by Congress in 2000 with the mission of reducing crashes, injuries and fatalities involving large commercial vehicles. Presently, FMCSA regulates 500,000 active motor carriers and 13,000 passenger carriers. Partnering with the truck and bus industries, safety advocates, and state and local governments, FMCSA works to improve truck and bus safety through regulation, education, enforcement, research, and technology. FMCSA updates guidelines for brokers, dispatch services

A fully loaded tractor-trailer weighing 80,000 pounds traveling under ideal conditions at a speed of 65 mph will require nearly the length of TWO FOOTBALL FIELDS to stop. FMCSA is making changes to hours-of-service regulations to improve safety by providing greater flexibility for commercial drivers.
