Instead of rushing to fix it or dismissing their feelings, try these four steps: ✅ Pause & Breathe – Regulate yourself first so you can show up calm and present. And acknowledge the incident and child. Whether that’s eye contact or moving closer let them know you’re there and you saw what happened. ✅ Narrate what happened out loud to help the child process.
