Burning wetlands might sound mad, but the Traditional Owners of the Tyrendarra IPA have been wanting to do it for years! Burning the wetland gives many benefits - cultural, ecological, environmental and emotional. Members of Gunditj Mirring and Winda-Mara Budj Bim Rangers completed the burn using traditional patch burning techniques, educating the next generation of Traditional Owners in these skills. The burns also benefitted the endaged Australasian Bittern which nests in these wetland areas.
