The Ashley Youth Detention Centre in Tasmania has become notorious after two decades of stories about mistreatment at the centre. Children at Tasmania's Ashley Youth Detention Centre say they're still being confined to their rooms for up to 23 hours a day, despite a recent UN report describing it as torture. The Tasmanian Government says the lockdowns are a necessity during staff shortages, and children continue to have access to school and activities during lockdowns. However, detainees and their parents have told the ABC that's not the case, and far from Ashley being a place of rehabiliation, it's making things worse. ST
